Why Professional Damp Proofing Is Essential

Properties across Berkshire, Surrey, and London face severe hydrostatic groundwater pressure, capillary moisture rise, and lateral rainwater penetration. Without a calibrated, continuous defence system, internal masonry quickly suffers from hygroscopic salt efflorescence, black mould spores, blown plaster, and rotting timber joists. Above Water install permanent barrier systems across walls and floors to arrest moisture ingress at the exact physical source.

Our Engineered Systems in Action

The lasting success of damp proofing treatments relies on British Standards (BS 8102 & BS 6576), quantitative moisture profiling, and careful surface preparation. We inspect substrate salinity and relative humidity before applying waterproof tanking slurries, high-density studded cavity drain membranes, or silane cream DPC injections.

Accurate Assessment

Diagnostic Signs & Substrate Causes

Recognising the early symptoms of moisture ingress prevents structural deterioration and costly repairs.

Warning Signs & Common Symptoms

Damp patches spreading upwards from floor level
White powdery efflorescence (salts) pushing through plaster
Mould growth on cold interior wall corners and behind furniture
Rotting timber skirting boards and decayed floorboards
Damp, cold feeling in rooms regardless of central heating

Underlying Structural Causes

Degraded or punctured original bitumen / slate DPC
Ground levels raised above internal finished floor level
Direct water penetration through porous brickwork or failed mortar joints
Internal condensation resulting from poor air circulation
Systematic Methodology

Our 4-Step Diagnostic & Treatment Process

Every property receives a measured, professional approach compliant with British Standards.

Step 01

Damp Cause Identification

Pinpointing the exact mechanism of moisture ingress (capillary action, lateral penetration, or condensation).

Step 02

Substrate Preparation

Careful removal of contaminated plaster back to bare brickwork at least 1 metre high or 300mm above damp line.

Step 03

Barrier Installation

Installation of high-grade chemical DPC injection, cavity membrane, or structural water-repellent systems.

Step 04

Salt-Retardant Replastering

Application of breathable, salt-resistant backing renders and smooth finish plaster ready for redecoration.

Engineered Standards

Treatment Specifications

High-specification damp proofing membranes, chemical barriers, and waterproofing systems.

Chemical Damp Proof Course Injection

Advanced micro-emulsion silane cream creating a continuous horizontal barrier against capillary moisture.

Cavity Studded Wall Membranes

High-density polyethylene studded membranes allowing walls to breathe while providing an immediate dry wall lining.

Penetrating Damp Masonry Protection

Breathable siloxane masonry sealants preventing wind-driven rain penetration without sealing in moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions About Damp Proofing

As a general rule of thumb, brickwork takes approximately one month per inch of wall thickness to dry out naturally. However, our specialist salt-retardant replastering systems allow interior rooms to be safely redecorated following cure times.

For rising damp, salt-contaminated plaster must be removed up to 1m (or 300mm above the highest damp reading) because hygroscopic ground salts permanently absorb moisture from the air even after a new DPC is injected.
